Dhaka: A good student, sports organizer, playwright. He is again a politician and a young freedom fighter. August 5 is the birthday of a short-lived man who specializes in such adjectives. If he had survived, he would have been 72 years old. I am talking about Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the father of the nation. In just 26 years, this man of genius, full of infinite vitality, was exterminated in the worst murder in history. His teammates claim that the present generation has a lot to learn from Sheikh Kamal’s honesty and humanity. After the partition of the country in 1949, it was time to establish the mother tongue. The enlightened child Sheikh Kamal was born on August 5 of that year in Tungipara in the lap of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujib and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. After the birth, Kamal did not get close to his father like ten other children. After his father Sheikh Mujib became a minister, he lived with his family in Dhaka from Tungipara in the 50’s. Duronto Kamal started Dons Kindergarten in Segunbagicha, then Shaheen School and Dhaka College and entered Dhaka University in 1989. Ever since he was admitted to the social sciences department, one talent after another has been developing. He was signing multi-dimensional talents like sports, drama, music, politics. Those words were uttered by his teammates in remembrance. Sheikh Kamal’s colleague Taurid Hussain said that Sheikh Kamal used to give nice slogans. As Bangabandhu’s worthy son, there is no such organizer who is born with an innate nature. But he did not take the lead. He won the first place in Setar Banjano around 6-79. He was multitalented. Our youth could get a lot from him. Social philanthropist Kamal, as a student, jumped into the great liberation war of 1971 with indomitable courage. At the Idol Camp in India, 61 people were selected for training. Sheikh Kamal left his family as one of them and successfully completed the first batch war course of the army. Fearless Kamal shared some parts of his war life with his comrades-in-arms.Major General (Retd.) Syed Ahmed Bir Pratik, a coursemate of Sheikh Kamal in the war of liberation, said that he was never seen to be inattentive in class (war training). He used to fire very carefully. Sheikh Kamal never took any extra advantage by using his father’s name or his father’s office name. Maybe using Sheikh Kamal has benefited some of his other friends. At the end of the war, he returned to the country and even after being promoted to captain, he left the army and resumed his studies. Besides, he established historical institutions like Abahani Sports Club. Not only that, it was the initiative of Kamal, a fan of culture, that led to the Dhaka Theater, an initiative to change the society like Spondon Shilpi Gosthi. At the age of only 26, he took himself to a unique height in the practice of various levels of culture in the midst of so many activities. He used to compose melodies in Setare with skillful hands like a devotee. This man of socio-culturally rich thinking was put to death forever on August 15, 1975. According to his friends and well-wishers, if a Sheikh Kamal had survived, like Bangabandhu’s eldest daughter Sheikh Hasina, he might have been able to play a commendable role in the service of the country as well as in the establishment of a humane society for the welfare of the masses.
Sheikh Kamal was endowed with many talents
