Lebanon Israeli airstrikes

Desk report: Amid rising tensions with Iran, news of the new cross-border animosity has surfaced. The Israeli military said in a statement that airstrikes had been fired at two rocket launches in Lebanon. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of 2,000 people, according to Lebanese President Michael Aoun. He said the attack was a direct threat to the security and stability of southern Lebanon. This has violated the UN Security Council resolution. Hezbollah’s Al-Maher television reported that Israeli planes had carried out two raids on the outskirts of the Lebanese city of Mahmudia. No casualties were reported. And Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the attack sent a clear message that “we have the power to do more.” Hopefully, he doesn’t have to go that far. Earlier on Wednesday (August 4), two rockets fired from Lebanon hit Israel. Israel’s Megan David Adam Ambulance Service said no one was killed or injured in the attack. They also shared a picture of smoke rising from a field after the attack on Twitter. The British news agency Reuters reported that sirens sounded in several places, including the town of Kirayat Shamona on the Lebanese border, shortly after the rocket attack. The Israeli military said in a statement that three rockets had been fired from Lebanon. One of which has come close to the Israeli border. The other two hit inside Israel. In response, Israeli artillery also attacked Lebanon. The border has been relatively calm since Israel’s 2006 war with Hezbollah guerrillas. Hezbollah controls southern Lebanon. They are regularly enriching their rocket arsenal. In the past, Palestinians stationed in Lebanon used to shoot sporadically at Israel. Two rockets were fired on July 20. However, no casualties were reported. Israel also responded by firing artillery shells. News of the new border tensions came after a drone strike on an Israeli-owned tanker last Thursday. Israel has blamed Iran for the attack. Two British and Romanian crew members were killed in the attack. However, Iran has denied any involvement in the attack. On Wednesday (August 4th), Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz told UN Security Council member states that it was time to take diplomatic, economic and military action against Iran. Otherwise, they will continue such attacks. Earlier, Britain, Romania and Liberia said Iran was likely to play a role in the drone strike. The United States and Britain say they are working with allies to respond to the attack. On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he had the opportunity to take action against Iran if necessary.
