For the first time in history, women occupy the top positions in the two holy mosques of Makkah and Madina

Desk report:  For the first time in history, two women have been appointed as assistant heads of Riyasa Shuun al-Haramain, the office that oversees the two holy mosques in Makkah and Modina. The appointment was made on Sunday by Sheikh Abdur Rahman al-Sudais, head of the Riyadh Shuun al-Haramain and imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, local media Arab News reported. The newly appointed Dr. Fatema Al-Rashud, Assistant Chief of Women’s Affairs and Dr. Al-Anud Al-Abud has been appointed Assistant Head of Women’s Development. Earlier, in August last year, 10 women were recruited at various levels, led by the first Riyasa Shuun al-Haramain. Riyasa Shuun al-Haramain further said that they are going to train 320 Saudi women to improve the quality of service for female pilgrims visiting the two holy mosques. The office of Riyasa Shuun al-Haramain was established in 2012 to oversee the affairs of the two holy mosques, the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and the Nawabi Mosque in Modina.
