Flood death toll rises to 40 in Turkey

A statement from Turkey’s Disaster Management Authority said floods caused by heavy rains hit the northern Black Sea region of the country on Wednesday (August 11th). As a result, 34 people died in Kastamnu province. Six more died in Sinop province. The statement further said that rescue and relief operations are continuing in the flood-hit areas. Several thousand volunteers took part in it. Rescuers are evacuating civilians from flood-hit areas by helicopter and boat. Meanwhile, on Friday (August 13th), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Bozkurt district of Castamonur, the worst-hit flood-hit area. At the time, he assured assistance to the flood victims. At the end of the visit, he said, “We will try our best as soon as possible and hopefully we will overcome the crisis.”There have been two major natural disasters in Turkey this month. Large areas of the southern part of the country have been devastated by the fire. At least 158 ​​wildfires have killed at least six people since July 26, according to the government. Authorities say many of the wildfires in the region have come under control due to extensive efforts at home and abroad. However, as soon as the disaster was brought under control on one side of the country, there were reports of massive floods on the other side.
