Landslide death toll rises to 20 in Venezuela

Desk report:  The death toll from landslides and floods in the western Venezuelan state of Merida has risen to 20. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed. Several people are still missing. Meanwhile, several Colombian cities were inundated by heavy rains on Wednesday. They are suffering from shortage of clean food and water. Meanwhile, rescue operations are still under way on the east coast of the United States, following the flooding caused by Hurricane Henry in Tennessee. Many countries in the world are affected by the floods. Heavy rain fell on Wednesday in the western Venezuelan state of Merida. The heavy rains caused floods as well as landslides in the hilly areas. The death toll rose to 20 on Thursday. At least more than a thousand houses have been damaged. About 18 people have gone missing. About 150 rescue workers are working to rescue them. Residents are without electricity. The communication system has been destroyed. Meanwhile, heavy rains inundated the Colombian cities of Guaranda, Monteria and Cordoba on Wednesday. Thousands of houses have been destroyed. Bridges and roads have collapsed in the flood waters. The worst affected are Monterey residents. The suffering of the waterlogged people has reached its climax. They are suffering from shortage of clean food and water. One flood victim said everything was submerged in the flood waters. The water has risen up to the throat. All my mother-in-law’s chickens were washed away in the flood waters. We need the help of the government. We are alive; But our animals, birds, crops are nothing left. Another said we lost everything. My brother’s house was submerged in the flood waters. Everything is gone.
Hurricane Henry hit the east coast of the United States on Sunday. The state of Tennessee was hit by flash floods. Several people have gone missing. The rescue operation is still going on in search of them. However, authorities said only three people were missing on Wednesday. On the same day, the locals returned to their homes from the shelter. So far, 22 bodies have been recovered from the hurricane in the state.
