Avia, the country’s second-largest island east of the Greek capital Athens, has been reduced to ashes in a five-day fire. The whole of Avian has been turned into a haunted city by fire. Although the fire was extinguished in some areas, the smoke from the fire is still spreading in the area. The situation is so dire that locals are fleeing their homes to escape the fire. However, with the help of the authorities, more than two thousand residents have already been evacuated by ferry. Meanwhile, more than a thousand firefighters are having to speed up the control of the fire due to the intense fire. In the meantime, about one and a half lakh acres of forest land has been burnt to ashes. Several villages and areas have been destroyed. The fire also spread to Peloponnese, Arcadia and even Olympia. On the other hand, the fire in the southern part of Turkey did not come under control in 11 days. The fire destroyed two tourist cities on the Aegean Sea, Marmaris and Bodrum, but the fire is still not under control. Attempts have been made to extinguish the blaze with the help of state-of-the-art firefighting aircraft and helicopters from neighboring countries, but fires are constantly being created in new areas. The authorities said that the fire was being brought under control due to unfavorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, the city of Greenville in the northern state of California has been reduced to ashes in the last few days. On Saturday, California Governor Gavin Newsom visited the damaged town, about three and a half kilometers from Sacramento. He assured all possible assistance in the reconstruction of the affected areas. About four and a half lakh acres of forest land has already been burnt to ashes in the fire. So far, the fire brigade has claimed that 35 percent of the area’s fires have been brought under control.
