Thursday recorded a temperature of 48.8 degrees Celsius or 119.8 degrees Fahrenheit.The country’s health ministry has issued red alerts for extreme temperatures in several areas, and the number of cities facing the highest health risks is expected to rise to eight to 15 by Friday.According to the World Meteorological Organization, the current highest temperature in Europe is 48 degrees Celsius. It was recorded in 1968 in Athens, Greece.Italy is experiencing heat waves due to the anticyclone Lucifer from Africa. Anticyclones are places of high atmospheric pressure where air sinks.
