Desk report: Mullah Abdul Gani Baradar, co-founder of the Taliban, has arrived in the Afghan capital. He is back to hold talks with Taliban commanders to complete the process of seizing power, former government leaders, religious elders and a Taliban official told Reuters on Saturday. The Taliban official said Baradar would meet in Kabul with Taliban commanders, former government leaders and other religious leaders, including policymakers. However, he did not say anything more. Baradar, the head of the group’s political bureau, was part of the Taliban delegation that attended the peace talks in Doha, Qatar. He is considered one of the most trusted commanders of Mullah Omar, the founder and former supreme leader of the Taliban. He was arrested by Pakistani security forces in Karachi in 2010 and released by Pakistani authorities in 2016. In an interview with Reuters, a Taliban official said the Taliban planned to develop a new model for governing Afghanistan in the next few weeks. This model of the new government will have separate teams to look after international security and financial issues. He added that experts from the former government would also be brought in to manage the crisis. The structure of the new government will not be democratic according to the Western definition but it will protect the rights of everyone. Meanwhile, NATO officials say they have evacuated about 12,000 foreigners and Afghans working for embassies and international aid agencies from Kabul airport since the Taliban entered the capital a week ago. Earlier, from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan in an iron fist. After the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in the United States, the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) launched a military operation to oust al Qaeda militants. But after US-led forces withdrew from Afghanistan, the group, which had been fighting for 20 years, regained control. However, this time they are indicating that they want to run the country by adopting some moderation instead of extremism.
